Biography
Our Family
Hello and welcome to Calico Farm. We are so glad you stopped by. Our farm is a small ten acre farm tucked up in the beautiful mountains of North Idaho near Couer d' Alene lake.
We raise Angora and Pygora goats, Icelandic sheep, Merino and crossbred sheep. We also have a wonderful Jersey cow, four horses, two Alpaca fiber boys, a few chickens and three cats who watch over our barn.
Our children are 4-H members and we are members of the Log Cabin Spinner's group.
Our fiber farm and hobby began with the rescuing of several Angora and Pygora goats. It took several months of vet care, delousing and proper minerals and supplements to get this group healthy. We learned alot through trial and error and read several wonderful books on organic care of our animals. Today our animals are raised with several organic methods and it shows in the beautiful fiber they produce for us.
Soon after bringing home the goats, my neighbor and dear friend, gave me her Poly Spinning wheel! I was addicted to the fiber arts! Learning to spin and working with the fiber right off the animals, from shearing, skirting, washing, carding and spinning, it's very facinating. A shepard can tell alot about a certain animals health and diet deficiencies from their fleece. Spinning and felting are both relaxing and mesmerizing. The artist gets lost in the creation process. I am truly hooked!
As my fiber hobby progressed, we added registered Icelandic Sheep and a few cross bred sheep like: Jacob/Icelandic, Rambouillet/CVM, Merino/Shetland, Finn, Bond X Finn, and two dairy goats. Each of our animals have a photo page dedicated to them, so be sure to browse our site. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
